yes the second one works, however i dont get any output from the rs232 port. and it has a completely different bootup process. not like the other dvr

You need TTL from motherboard

these are the available headers on the board. plus the rs232 on the back of unit

yes null modem cable with com port setting 115200,8,n,1

with the dvr unplugged, if i hold down (setup) & (enter) buttons on front panel, then plug in power, it goes into "firmware upgrade" mode.

it's old school DVR?
